Donate blood — win a car.

Bloodworks Northwest is partnering with Haselwood Auto Group to give away one of nine pre-selected new vehicles to a lucky donor between now and March 17; entry into the contest is automatic when you donate blood.

The pre-selected cars include a 2020 Chevy Trax, a 2020 Ford Ecosport 5, a 2020 Honda Civic LX, a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Blue Hybrid, a 2020 Jeep Renegade 4×4 SUV, a 2020 Volkswagon Jetta Se, a 2021 Kia Soul GT-LINE, a 2021 Mazda3 Base, and a 2021 Toyota Carolla Hybrid.

Luckily for Plateau residents, Bloodworks will be visiting Black Diamond’s St. Barbara Catholic Church (32416 6th Ave.) on Jan. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bloodworks says January is one of the most challenging months for blood donations.

“Extreme cold weather and seasonal illnesses often make it difficult for Bloodworks to maintain a sufficient blood supply at this time of year,” the organization said in a press release. “Make your appointment to help us keep a stable blood supply through this season.”

Blood isn’t the only thing being collected at these pop-up donor centers — the church’s Knights of Columbus is collecting canned goods during the blood drive for their own food bank, as well as others on the Plateau.

Before signing up to donate blood, though, there are several more rules to adhere to due to the pandemic.

Maybe most importantly, walk-in appointments are no longer allowed — Bloodworks Northwest is requiring everyone to schedule an appointment by calling 800-398-7888 or by visiting their website, www.bloodworksnw.org.

Additionally, no guests or children under the age of 16 are allowed onsite.

Masks are also required in order to donate.

Although the time it takes to donate blood differs from person to person, Bloodworks Northwest encourages donors to plan for an hour-long appointment, which includes signing in and preparation for donating blood.
