A busy weekend filled with roadwork, festivals and more could cause you delays if you’re headed north into Seattle this weekend.
Weekend long construction closures will take place on state Routes 99 and 520. You can also expect some overnight lane closures on northbound Interstate 5. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and the Fremont Fair will also add extra traffic. Be sure to get the marathon list of details before you head out.
Here’s what’s happening:
SR 99 lane closure details
- All northbound lanes of SR 99 through Seattle will close from 10 p.m. Friday, June 20, until 5 a.m. Monday, June 23 for work on the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program.
- One southbound lane north of the Battery Street Tunnel between Republican and Thomas streets will be closed from 4 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday for utility work.
SR 520 closure details
- SR 520 will close for weekend construction at 11 p.m. Friday, June 20, between Montlake Boulevard and Interstate 405 for work on the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program. The highway will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, June 23.
I-5 lane closure details
- Contractor crews working for WSDOT plan to close up to three lanes of northbound I-5 at Spokane Street beginning Saturday night until Sunday morning for expansion joint work.
- The first lane closes at 7 p.m., the second at 8 p.m., and the third by 10:30 p.m. Two lanes will reopen by 8:30 a.m. with all lanes open by 11 a.m.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon closure details
Approximately 25,000 participants will take part in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 21. The event starts and ends at Seattle Center and will close the following sections of I-90 and I-5:
- I-90 express lanes will close from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- The left lane of the I-5 express lanes and the ramp to Cherry/Columbia and 5th Avenue will close from 8 to 10 a.m.
I-5 mainline ramp closures:
- Southbound off-ramp to Dearborn will close from 5 to 9:45 a.m.
- Northbound off-ramp to Dearborn will close from 5 to 9:45 a.m.
- Dearborn on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 5 to 9:45 a.m
