Candidates lining up for fall elections

There was an early opportunity for political hopefuls to submit a Declaration of Candidacy by mail, but most will file this week. The formal filing period began Monday morning and concludes Friday.

In Enumclaw, voters will select at least one new member of the City Council and could change a maximum of three seats. Nine-year veteran Jeff Beckwith has announced he will not run again while incumbents Jim Hogan and Rich Elfers will each seek another term.

All are at-large positions, meaning there are no geographic districts within the city limits.

There are four seats open on the Enumclaw School Board. The certainties are Nancy Merrill, a longtime board member, will run again, as will Corey Cassell. Tim Nickson will step aside. The District 2 post recently came vacant when it was discovered Tamarah Hancock lived slightly outside the boundaries of her district. The remaining board members will select a replacement, but the seat will be decided permanently in the fall.

Buckley voters will decide four posts on their City Council this fall. To be decided are the Position 4 seat now occupied by James Montgomery; Position 5, Melissa Patson; Position 6, Jan Twardoski; and Position 7, Mark McNally.

In Black Diamond, three seats on the City Council are up for election: Position 1, now occupied by Kristine Hanson; Position 3, William Boston; and Position 5, Leih Mulvihill.

In Carbonado, voters will decide a mayor’s race and fill three seats on the Town Council. Mayor Richie Morgan is up for re-election, as are Jay Argo, Position 3; Wally Snover, Position 4; and Buck McBride, Position 5.

Wilkeson has a trio of council positions to be decided. On the ballot are Position 1, now held by Darla McQueen; Position 4, Trisha Summers; and Position 5, Becky Gilbert.

Voters in the Carbonado Historical School District will decide three positions. On the ballot will be Position 3, now occupied by Thomas Morgan; Position 4, David Bentley; and Position 5, Sue McBride.

Two seats are to be decided in the White River School District. Voters will determine the District 2 seat held by Susan McGuire and the District 5 seat occupied by Jean Lacy.

Fire District No. 28 has just one seat up for election, the Position 1 seat now held by David Hannity.
