Enumclaw’s starters found the end zone often, the late-game substitutes padded the point total and the defense cracked the scoring column as well.
All in all, it added up to an easy 56-3 Hornet victory over Mount Tahoma on a coolish Friday night at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
Enumclaw was originally slated to take on Foss High, but the Falcons have been unable to field a team this season. So, the Hornets went looking for a suitable opponent and found one in the Thunderbirds, who hail from Tacoma.
Mount Tahoma might be regretting its decision to make the trek to the Plateau.
After a relatively inauspicious start by both teams, the Hornets scored often to run their season record to 2-1. The T’birds are trending in an unfortunate direction, now sitting at 0-4 on the shortened campaign.
Enumclaw held a 21-3 halftime lead that included an interception by Clive Pond that he returned 73 yards for a touchdown. The first two TDs came courtesy of Royal Snyder carries, the first from 19 yards and the second from 17.
Snyder added two more rushing TDs in the second half and veteran quarterback Cameron Brauer tossed touchdown passes to Dylan Watterson and Kaden Loop. The Hornets’ final tally came on a 29-yard pass from Malcolm Harper to Carson Firnkoess.
To top things off, sophomore kicker Noah Seabrands was perfect on his eight extra-point attempts.
Enumclaw will be looking to make it two wins in a row this week when they play a rare Saturday game. The Hornets will kick off at 7 p.m. in a home game against the Washington Patriots.
WHITE RIVER
The tough times continued for the White River Hornets, who saw their season record slip to 0-3 last weekend.
Playing on Saturday, rather than the traditional Friday night, the White River squad took to the road and fell 18-6 at Orting. The game was delayed a day due to a shortage of officials.
The offense continues to be a work in progress for the Hornets who have scored just three touchdowns and 18 points in their three outings. At Orting, the offense accounted for just 86 total yards, gaining 66 on the ground and 20 through the air.
While White River moved the ball on occasion, it was a first-quarter Orting miscue that led to the Hornets’ only touchdown of the night. The Cardinals were guilty of a fumbled punt that White River recovered inside the 5-yard line. Handed that scoring opportunity, Payne Plaster cashed in with a 2-yard scoring burst.
White River has an unplanned nonleague game on the calendar this week. The Hornets were originally slated to play Foss High, but the Falcons have been unable to field a team this season. Instead, White River will travel to Tacoma Friday to take on the Wilson Rams.
Wilson High is 1-2 in the Class 3A Pierce County League and sits at 1-3 overall. The Rams are coming off a 48-12 loss to the Lakes Lancers.
