Golfers from both Enumclaw and White River high schools closed out their season with a two-day tournament at Eagle’s Pride Golf Course in DuPont.
They joined peers from throughout the South Puget Sound League 2A for 18 holes of play on Wednesday, March 31; those making the cut were invited back for another 18 holes the following day.
In the end, White River was celebrating a pair of champions. On the boys’ side, sophomore Zach Miller paced the Day 1 field with a 69, then added a round of 70. He clearly was the class of the field, finishing six strokes ahead of second-place Cole VanDuyn of Fife.
Championship-caliber play extended to the girls’ ranks, where White River junior Brooke Gelinas carded a two-day total of 153 (79-74) to climb to the top of the leaderboard. She bested teammate Brooke Mahler who led Day 1 scorers with a round of 76, then tacked on a 79 to place second.

White River boys
Kaden Ausen placed third, 73-80-153; Lane Maras was fifth, 80-86-166; Pollo Mijares, 12th; 88-88-176; AJ Mills, 15th, 94-92-186; and Jackson Flanigan, 17th, 95-94-189. Alex Wakefield shot 103 during the opening round and didn’t survive the cut.
White River girls
After taking the top two spots, White River had Sophie Ross tying for eighth after shooting 95-107-202; Emily Moser, 14th, 106-111-217; Abby Rose, 15th, 109-112-221; Maginn Neel,18th, 114-117-231; and Alle Klemkow, 20th, 112-141-253.
Enumclaw boys
The EHS boys were paced by Ben Laurnen, who finished seventh in the field after shooting 86-81-167. Close behind in eighth place was Cameron Serba at 90-79-169. They were joined by Jack Craighead, 14th, 92-91-183; Alex Long, 18th, 92-99-191; Tanner Nichols, 20th, 95-98-193. Missing the cut were Jake Bort with a Day 1 round of 104 and Kyle Bell, 108.
Enumclaw girls
The top EHS total was turned in by Brookelyn Jewett who opened with 100 and bounced back with a 94 on Day 2. Her 194 total left her in fifth place. She was joined by Emma Nitsche, who tied for eighth place, 99-103-202; Meredith Petellin, 10th, 102-102-204; Raegan Chevalier, 11th, 109-101-210; Anna Adsero, 12th, 1056-110-216; and Emily Alicea, 16th, 110-111-221.
ALL-LEAGUE SELECTIONS ARE NAMED FOR SPSL 2
When it came time for South Puget Sound League 2A coaches to pass out season-ending honors, both White River and Enumclaw were well represented.
White River, in particular, was dominant. Not only did both the boys’ and girls’ programs win league titles, but a pair of WR players captured top individual honors. Walking off with SPSL 2A Most Valuable Player accolades were sophomore Zach Miller and junior Brooke Mahler.
White River boys on the all-league first team included junior Lane Maras and freshman Kaden Ausen; on the second team was senior Jackson Flanigan; and earning honorable mention was junior AJ Mills.
For the White River girls, making the all-league first team was junior Brooke Gelinas; named to the second team were junior Emily Moser and a pair of freshmen, Alle Klemkow and Abby Rose; honorable mention went to freshman Sophie Ross.
While the White River girls won the league championship outright, the boys’ team shared the top spot with Fife. The Trojans sat atop the final league standings, but White River won the league tournament, creating a tie.
Enumclaw placed 10 golfers on the all-league list.
For the EHS boys, named to the first team were senior Cameron Serba and junior Ben Laurnen; making the second team were junior Jack Craighead and sophomore Jake Bort; and earning honorable mention was freshman Tanner Nichols.
A pair of Enumclaw girls made the SPSL 2A first team, senior Meredith Petellin and junior Brookelyn Jewett. Earning second-team recognition were junior Emma Nitsche and freshman Emily Alicea; and receiving honorable mention was sophomore Raegan Chevalier.
