With their high school days behind them, a pair of former Enumclaw High Hornets had one final taste of prep athletics the weekend of July 10-11.

Cole Kaschmitter and Kaden Loop found themselves in Yakima, playing baseball at Parker Field as part of the All-State Series. The annual event brings together top players from throughout the Evergreen State, from schools of all sizes.

Both former Hornets played a key role in their team’s exciting, eight-inning 10-9 victory on the opening day of the series.

Kaschmitter was named the game’s Most Valuable Player for both his offensive and defensive contributions. At the plate, he collected two hits – including a sixth-inning double off the outfield wall – and added a walk. Late in the game, due to a shortage of outfielders, he was asked to take over right field duties as Loop moved to first base. In the final inning, Kaschmitter made a nice running catch in the right field corner to preserve his team’s lead.

Earlier in the game Loop was in right field and made a crucial, back-to-the-wall catch that saved a run. Offensively, he added a hit to help the club.

The victory sent the team to Sunday afternoon’s championship, which didn’t go nearly as well. Neither Kaschmitter nor Loop came up with a hit as their team fell 4-3.
