The White River High boys soccer team improved to 3-0 on the young season with an exciting 3-2 victory over Bonney Lake Friday.
Despite both teams being members of the South Puget Sound League 3A, the contest did not count toward the league standings. The two will meet again later in the season and that second encounter will be a league matchup.
Assistant coach Travis Tremblay termed Friday’s victory one of the most exciting games he’s ever seen. The Hornets trailed by a goal early, tied the game on a penalty kick by Nathan Jung and remained tied following goals by Bonney Lake’s J.D. Walker and White River’s Brad McArtor. Then, with just seconds remaining to play, Jung blasted a shot from about 40 yards that found the net, giving the Hornets their third victory.
White River had earned a bit of revenge earlier in the week, defeating Capital High 3-0 March 24. Capital had knocked the Hornets out of the playoffs a season ago.
White River’s shutout victory included goals by Evan Robertson, Ricky Mau and Jake Dedge.
The Hornets played two nonleague games earlier this week, hosting North Thurston Monday and Fife Tuesday. Results were not available to be printed here, but will be posted at www.courierherald.com.
