A handful of Plateau teams can boast of impressive records during this spring season, but perhaps none can match the across-the-board success of the Enumclaw High girls’ tennis squad.

Through matches of last week, the EHS Hornets have served up a perfect 8-0 record and have rarely been challenged in the process.

Will Stuenkel, in his first year with the girls’ program (he also coaches the boys’ team during the fall season), admits to being impressed.

“This group of girls is very committed,” the coach reports, highlighting their competitive nature. “I am so happy with their success,” he added, while pointing out that a tough battle looms against the Fife Trojans.

The bulk of the Hornet roster has yet to taste individual defeat. That begins at the top, where junior Macy Furtwangler – the reigning Most Valuable Player in the South Puget Sound League 2A – has cruised to victory in all eight of her matches.

But there’s plenty more for Stuenkel to point to. In No. 2 singles play, Caitlin Triplett has also emerged victorious in all eight of her matches.

The success extends to doubles play, where the Hornet pairing of Moriah Rogel and Amelia Poulin, along with the duo of Josie Lorenz and Ashley Dickerson, also remain undefeated.

Playing in the toughest doubles slot, facing everyone’s No. 1 pair, are Enumclaw’s Sydney Scribner and Jasmine Dumontet. Despite the competition, they have managed a 5-3 record thus far.

Now in the midst of a 10-day spring break, the Hornet girls will return to action Monday, April 25, traveling to Fife to challenge the Trojans on their home courts.
