Midway through basketball practice Wednesday, Enumclaw High center Tarren “The Train” VanTrojen stumbled over a teammate and twisted his ankle.
“I’ve already had the swollen ankle X-rayed on the advice of the team trainer,” said the 6-fooot-6 senior center, who averages 12 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
“The x-ray disclosed that at least it wasn’t fractured, but I’ll have to have an MRI done on it before we’ll know what the actual extent of the damage was,” Van Trojen reported. “I might be out for a couple of weeks, but for right now, Coach (Phil Engebretsen) said it was important for me to get it healed up, by keeping weight off of it before the playoffs.”
In the interest of remaining unbeaten during the regular season, the mishap couldn’t have come at a worse time, as the Hornets’ next four games are against opponents that have recently given them the most trouble. The next four outings are: at Clover Park Jan. 29, at home against Auburn Mountainview Feb. 2, at Lakes High Feb. 4 and at home against Franklin Pierce Feb. 9, all at 7 p.m.
