‘People are going to die today’; Enumclaw man charged after threatening quarry workers with gun

Aaron Ray Lincoln was arrested at Ryterra Rock Quarry last week.

An Enumclaw man has been charged with assault and robbery after he allegedly pointed a handgun at and threatened to kill several workers without provocation at the Ryterra Rock Quarry east of Enumclaw last week.

Aaron Ray Lincoln, 32, allegedly entered the quarry, located in unincorporated King County off state Route 410, on July 12, just after 11 a.m., court documents read.

He encountered several men, none of whom knew reportedly knew Lincoln. One of the men told Lincoln that the quarry was a work zone and not open for business to the public; he did not understand Lincoln’s initial response, so the man said he was going to call the cops.

“I would call the cops if I were you,” Lincoln allegedly replied, according to police documents. “People are going to die today.”

Another police witness said Lincoln told the owner “I was sent here” when he was told to leave the property.

Lincoln then pulled up his shirt, revealing a firearm and pointed it at the man, who then attempted to get to his vehicle to grab his own gun; he was able to get into his car, and he fled. Several other men were also able to run and hide.

Another man was working in the garage and, after hearing the commotion, exited the shop to find Lincoln pointing a gun at him. Lincoln told the man to give him a cigarette, but he did not have one.

A nearby automated truck wheel washer then went off, distracting Lincoln enough for the man to run back into the garage.

Lincoln then continued into the work site and found one man who was attempting to hide. Ordering the man into the main yard, Lincoln reportedly demanded the man’s sunglasses, cigarettes, and a lighter at gunpoint, which he gave Lincoln. Lincoln then demanded the man remove his clothes, but the man refused.

Around 11:30, a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter arrived on scene, again distracting Lincoln, giving the man the chance to run and hide again. A deputy began giving orders to Lincoln via a speaker on the helicopter, but Lincoln ignored them.

Other deputies and state patrol had closed down a portion of the nearby highway by this time, and seven deputies, along with a police dog, entered the quarry. When Lincoln spotted the approaching deputies, he fired 19 shots into the air. He then reloaded and holstered the gun and approached the arrest team.

According to the police report, Lincoln refused to comply with deputies’ orders, who then fired multiple less-lethal 40mm rounds at Lincoln. It’s unclear if Lincoln was struck; “moments later, Lincoln suddenly complied and got on the ground to surrender,” the report reads.

Lincoln was officially charged with three counts of assault in the second degree and one count of robbery in the first degree on July 14. Bail was set at $750,000, as requested by prosecutors; arraignment is set for July 28 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office noted that Lincoln has not been charged with any prior felonies. However, the police report added that Lincoln’s wife recently filed a protection order against him, “sharing alarming details about Lincoln’s behavior with a gun”, though at the time of the quarry incident, the protection order had not yet been served.

In an unrelated event, when SR 410 was closed, a dump truck crashed into an occupied state patrol vehicle.
