News on Stevens Canyon Road, a 50-year EHS reunion, and an unfinished article.

THERE IS A HOUSE AT MT. RAINIER…: The road to Sunrise opened Friday, July 1, offering visitors access to the highest point accessible by car at the National Park. The Day Lodge at Sunrise opened July 4 and runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily offering food and rest to travelers. The Sunrise Visitor Center, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., opened July 8. The Longmire Museum, Henry Jackson visitor center at Paradise and Ohanapecosh Visitor Centers are all open too. Enjoy Tahoma, but remember to check road and weather conditions at the mountain before you go. Snow will be packed high on the mountain well into the summer.

STEVENS CANYON ROADWORK CONTINUES: If you do plan on passing through the Mount Rainier National Park, stay alert to the ongoing work on Stevens Canyon Road, which connects the Paradise area to SR 123 on the park’s east side. Crews are repairing a section of the road between Stevens Creek and Box Canyon this summer.

Parts of Stevens Canyon Road briefly re-opened between July 15 through July 18, but that section of road will otherwise be closed every Monday at 6 a.m. through each Thursday at 8 p.m. each week until Labor Day. Visitors on the weekends should be prepared for 20 — 30 minute traffic delays.

Meanwhile, Christine Falls and its nearby parking areas will be closed from Monday to Friday between July 18 – 28, but open during the weekends, while contractors repair the Christine Falls bridge. Visitors should be prepared for traffic delays on the weekends.

50-YEAR EHS REUNION: Any student from the Enumclaw High School class of 1972 or earlier is invited to celebrate a 50-year all-class reunion on August 4, with a potluck starting at 11:30 a.m. at the high school commons. Members of the classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 will all be inducted Students from any of the three graduation years are invited to attend,as the reunion, since COVID-19 precautions meant some of them classes missed out on their reunions over the last two years. COURT UPDATES: Several trials followed by the Courier-Herald have been delayed. The trial against Allen Bittner is currently scheduled for Sept. 6, 2022. The trial against Brendan Lee Palmer is currently scheduled for Oct.17.
