Aug. 2

Buckley’s National Night Out: The Buckley Police Department is hosting a National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Buckley Youth Activity Center. There will be a parade, fire and police department vehicles to explore, hotdogs, and, of course, the chance to meet your local first responder.

Aug. 4

50-year EHS reunion: Any student from the Enumclaw High School class of 1972 or earlier is invited to celebrate a 50-year all-class reunion on August 4, with a potluck starting at 11:30 a.m. at the high school commons. Members of the classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 will all be inducted, but members of all classes from 50 or more years ago — i.e., 1972 and back — are welcome. Aug. 5

Maris Farms Sunflower Days: Maris Farms in Buckley is hosting its third annual Sunflower Days event every Friday through Sunday through Aug. 21. Tickets include admission to the sunflower fields, which contains 20 varieties of sunflowers, as well as the various other activities Maris is known for, like the Feed Mill Ropes Course, wagon rides and Human Foos Ball. Tickets are $17 for ages 3 – 10 and $20 for 11 and older, but groups of 15 or more can get discounted prices. Buy tickets at marisfarms.com/sunflower-home/.

Enumclaw Chamber Golf tourney: The 20th annual Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is Aug. 5, at, where else, the Enumclaw Golf Course. Tickets are $110 for a single (or $90 if you’re already a Golf Course annual member/have your own golf cart) or $440 for a foursome ($360 with annual membership/golf cart). Tickets, which can be bought at enumclawchamber.com/events, include 18 holes, lunch and dinner, and various raffle prizes. Additional dinner guests can attend for $20.

Aug. 6

Race to End Slavery: Buckley’s Anchor House is hosting its first annual 5K/10K Race to End Slavery with Love Justice International on Aug. 6 outside the Youth Center. The 10K race begins at 9:30 a.m., and the 5K a 9:45 a.m. An award ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.; there will be food trucks and children’s activities at the event for those not running. Aug. 10

Northwest Swing Festival: The Northwest Western Swing Music Society presents its 30th annual Northwest Swing Music Festival Aug. 10 – 13. For those who haven’t heard of the festival, being hosted at the Enumclaw Expo Center Fieldhouse, it’s an opportunity for beginner and expert western swing music players to get together and hone their skills and see some of the big names of the genre play on stage. The festival is comprised of live performances and a camp with instructors; more information on both, including performance times, can be found at nwwsms.com/index.htm. Music camp tickets are $150; tickets to the festival are $10 for attendees 10 and up Friday and Saturday. Thursday is a free day with a meet and greet, polka party, and community dance.

Aug. 13

Olympic Kennel Club dog show: The annual OKC dog show at the Enumclaw Expo Center is being held Aug. 13 – 21. While there are numerous events dog fans can attend at the show, one of the most active will be the agility trials, held Aug. 13 – 15, on the nearby football field . Aug. 26

Enumclaw Pro Rodeo: The Pro Rodeo returns to the Enumclaw Expo Center Aug. 26 through 28; gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with events beginning at 7 p.m.; gates open at 11 a.m. Sunday, with events beginning at 1 p.m. The Brewers Grade Band will be performing after the rodeo on Friday; Sammy Steele before the rodeo on Saturday; and Aaron Crawford after the rodeo on Sunday. Tickets to the rodeo are $10 for kids 6 – 12; $25 for 13 and over; or $15 for seniors 65-plus and active military. Tickets can be bought at enumclawprorodeo.com.

Aug. 28

Community Dinner: The Enumclaw Business Owners Collective is hosting a Community Dinner on Aug. 28, featuring foods from the new Casting Iron (brisket hand pies, mac and cheese, and other sides) and caterer Chef Ky (citrus grilled chicken, baked ziti, and a salad). The dinner will have tables lined up on Cole Street from Initial Avenue to Myrtle Avenue. To buy a ticket ($35) and select a meal, head to checkout.square.site/buy/MCS34G5G27GRW7HRBFWG4P2U. Funds will go toward helping the Enumclaw Business Owners Collective put on other community activities, like the winter Snow of Cole and summer live music events, and maintain the fire pits and chairs brought out on weekends when Cole Street closes.

MUSIC AND MOVIES

Cinema on Sheets: The city of Buckley continues to host free movie events at Glacier Middle School. The movies still planned to be shown are “The Goonies” on Aug. 5, and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on Aug. 19. Films start at dusk.

Tunes by the Trail: Buckley is also continuing to host free concerts and child-friendly events on the Youth Center lawn. Still to perform will be Reptile Isle (a reptile show for kids) at 11 a.m., followed by Abbagraphs (an Abba tribute band) at 6 p.m. on Aug. 4; and a kids concert featuring the Brian Waite Band at 11 a.n., followed by Good Co Band at 6 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Concerts on Cole: The Enumclaw Business Owners Collective continues to bring musical performances to Cole Street every Saturday at 6 p.m. On Aug. 6 was Rocktide Southsound and the Dueling Crooners; Aug. 13, Dakota Poorman; Aug. 20, Katie Wade; and Aug. 27, ReverbNation.

RECURRING EVENTS

Enumclaw Plateau Farmer’s Market: The local farmer’s market opens from 3 to 7 p.m. every Thursday throughout the summer, ending Sept. 29. You can get fresh flowers, produce and more from the market on First Street between the Enumclaw Library and Tractor Supply.

Sundays on Cole: Cole Street turns into a bazaar every Sunday through August with local vendors, live music, fresh flowers, and food.

Coffee with the Mayor: Coffee with the mayor of Enumclaw is held at City Hall on every first Monday of the month (Tuesday if it is on a holiday) from 9 to 10 a.m. This is a casual session for citizens to meet with Mayor Jan Molinaro to discuss issues, concerns, and projects.

Brewskis with a Newsie: Come meet your local journalists on every first Wednesday of each month at Cole Street Brewery (1627 Cole Street, Enumclaw) from 5 to 6 p.m. This is an informal event where residents can pitch stories, fact-check articles, and talk shop. WIBIT Night: The Enumclaw Aquatic Center hosts WIBIT Night every first Saturday of the month, and features large, inflatable pool obstacle courses. Call 360-815-1188 to reserve your spot. Tickets for reservations are $7.75 an hour; drop-ins are $9 an hour.
