The Enumclaw High football team used a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense to dominate Auburn Mountainview 28-6 Thursday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

The Hornet victory lifted Enumclaw’s South Puget Sound League 3A mark to 2-0, allowing it to keep pace with Bonney Lake and Lakes atop the league standings.

The Hornets have the opportunity to upstage the Lancers when they host Lakes Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, things began to fall into place for Enumclaw as Marcus Joshlin capped off a long scoring march with a 27-yard gallop to paydirt.

Kicker Matt Wasisco legged through his first of his four extra-point kicks and Enumclaw had drawn first blood.

Two minutes before intermission, the Hornets culminated another scoring drive when quarterback Dylan Podolak whistled a 23-yard dart to Terenn Houk to put Enumclaw out front 14-0 at the break. Houk latched on to nine tosses for 100 yards receiving.

Houk caught a Podolak pass near the goal line and Joshlin took care of the rest one play later, pounding the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out to put Enumclaw up 21-0 after Wasisco’s conversion split the uprights.

Joshlin toted the pigskin 24 times for 85 yards.

With the ensuing kickoff, fortune smiled upon Auburn Mountainview. Lion receiver Devin Bryan hauled in a pass from Rockey Dominic in the right flat and sprinted down the sideline for a 60-yard TD.

The Hornets then put the exclamation point on the drubbing. This time the six-pointer was recorded when Derek Forza collected a 10-yard Podolak pass.

It looked like the Lions might get in the last punch. It was not to be as Houk, who also plays defensive back for EHS, stepped in front of the final Dominic wobbler of the night and returned the interception to midfield.
