Little League teams finish season well
Led by Manager Jeff Schweter and coaches Jeff Martin and Tracy Gesterling, the Chinook Little League Baseball Majors all-star team, comprised of boys ages 11 and 12, captured seventh place in the District 10 tournament.
Also, the Chinook Little League softball teams closed out their seasons at each state tournament.
The 9- and 10-year-old softball all-stars scored the top finish, taking second in the 10-team bracket at the state tournament in Spokane.
Both the Majors and Juniors captured sixth.
The Majors, 11- to 12-year-old all-stars, earned their sixth-place showing in an eight-team bracket in Vancouver, Wash.
The Juniors, 12- to 14-year-old all-stars, placed sixth among eight teams in the state tournament in Kirkland.
Hall earns top 10 spot at nationals
Hailey Jo Hall finished 10th in goat tying at the National High School Rodeo Association Finals in Farmington, N.M., where she competed July 19-25 against students from across the 50 United States as well as four Canadian Provinces, Australia and New Zealand.
Hall, an Enumclaw High senior who was riding her new horse Baker, earned a belt buckle and scholarship for her efforts. She closed out the year ranked 10th in the world standings.
In addition to rodeo, she and her sister, Fallon, play on the girls’ high school basketball team.

Tigers scorch teams at soccer’s Blast-Off
The Tigers, a Casscade Foothills Soccer Club team consisting of Enumclaw girls, placed second during the weekend’s Federal Way Blast-Off tournament.
Playing in intense heat, the U-13 girls won every game leading up the championship. Next up for the local crew is the Shoreline Classic Aug. 14-16.
Panther Dance Team shows spirit
The combined Bonney Lake and Sumner High School Panther Dance team attended Universal Dance Association drill team camp July 20-23. Each team member learned four routines while at camp and participated in drill downs and team building activities. They were awarded the Gatorade “Most Improved Award” and were given two large gatorade jugs to use at their team practices this coming school year.
Each team member was evaluated on their performances. The team earned 41 blue superior ribbons and 16 red excellent ribbons for their routines. They also earned a total of 25 yellow drill-down ribbons. The team also earned the “Spirit Stick” each evening at camp for superior team spirit and togetherness. They also earned the “Super Spirit Stick” the first night of camp.
The group is led by Jill McKinley, dance team coach at Bonney Lake High.
The team is excited and motivated for the upcoming school year. The 19-member squad will perform at football halftime shows and school assemblies this fall and will begin their competition season in late November with the hope of qualifying for the state dance/drill competition in March.
Salsbury aces state championships
Enumclaw’s Tyler Sals-bury tied for first in the boys 14- to 15-year-old division with scores of 73-72-72 at the 33rd Washington Junior Golf Association’s state tournament, which concluded July 31. The three days of play took place at Overlake Country Club and Glendale Country Club.
In his division, Salsbury, 15, tied with Li Wang of Sammamish. Salsbury’s scores placed him in a tie for second place in the entire state championship, all boys 14 through 17 years of age played from the same tees.
In the boys 8- to 11-year-old division, Enumclaw’s Jared Beals finished seventh.
Jordan Beals, 17, of Enumclaw and Nolan Cull of Lake Tapps, who competed in the 12- to 13-year-old division, did not make the cut after two days of play.
