Enumclaw High squeezed in a makeup game March 31 at Auburn Mountainview, a contest that saw the Lions’ Brandon Williams matching pitches with Enumclaw junior Marcus Madden.

The black clouds looming overhead proved to be a bad omen for Enumclaw, as in the bottom of the fifth inning, with two runners on board in a scoreless game, Williams strolled to the plate. He clubbed a three-run homer that was the deciding factor in Mountainview’s 4-0 victory.

The loss sent Enumclaw’s league record to 3-2, 4-4 overall.

Williams, who will play for Washington State University next season, has been a thorn in the Hornets’ side. Last season, he hit a walk-off home run that kept EHS from making a trip to the state tournament.

The Hornets were able to bounce back from the March 31 defeat by hosting the 0-5 Lakes Lancers Thursday afternoon and winning 12-1.

Enumclaw High Principal Jill Burns was honored for her support of high school athletics, as she was given the distinction of tossing out the ceremonial first pitch.

The game itself provided little drama, with the exception of a towering thre-run homer by junior designated hitter Kyle Thomson. In the bottom of the sixth, D.J. Hitch launched a two-run homer to finish burying the Lancers.

Senior Casey Clare pitched six strong innings against Lakes, with the 10-run rule making the seventh frame unnecessary.
