Wrapping up a cut-off article, a fatal SR 410 crash roundup, and an update on KCLS late fees.

Correction: A previous version of this article misreported the time of Reagan Dunn’s town hall. The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

FATAL CRASH ROUNDUP: State route 410 was closed for a few hours last Friday afternoon following a fatal collision. According to the Washington State Patrol, an eastbound driver was reaching for their cell phone when they swerved into the westbound lane and hit another vehicle. The eastbound driver, from Maple Valley was flown to Harborview Medical Center; the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, from Tacoma, were dead on the scene. No charges against the alleged at-fault have been filed as of Sunday, April 30. The Courier-Herald typically does not name suspects until charges are officially filed.

DUNN TOWN HALL: King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, representing the Plateau, is hosting a town hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 4 at the Neuwaukum Wedding and Event Hall in Auburn. Also present will be Undersheriff Jesse Anderson and Director of Local Services John Taylor.

CUT-OFF ARTICLE: Last week’s article, “Canadian family struggles to pay for injuries after recent crash” was cut off in the print edition and did not include contact information for how readers could financially help a Canadian family after a suspected DUI. The following text, which can be found online, is what was cut off:

On April 13, Lareina learned that the suspected driver, who collided with her, had a driver’s license but allegedly didn’t have insurance. She told Ha-Shilth-Sa she is worried about how the hospital bills will be paid.

The Government of Canada advises its citizens to buy traveler’s health insurance even for a day trip to the U.S. This is because your Canadian health insurance may not pay your medical bills while you’re outside Canada, and that your provincial or territorial health plan may cover none, or only a small part, of the costs of your medical care abroad.

Close family members are doing what they can to assist Lareina and her parents as they try to figure out how their medical expenses will be paid and how they will get home. But without answers or an advocate, the family has more stress to contend with on their long road to recovery.

If you would like to help the Lucas family, you may send donations to Lareina Lucas’s daughter: lakishalewis@hotmail.com or directly to Lareina at ariannajade2011@hotmail.com.

If you use Paypal please send to ariannajade2011@hotmail.com.

TRIAL UPDATE: The trial of Daniel Ray Evans, accused of animal cruelty when he allegedly stabbed three dogs, has been moved to June 6.

KCLS UPDATE: The King County Library System recently announced it is doing away with late fees. However, due dates for library materials are still in effect, and lost items — items missing after 60 days — will result in a lost fee being applied to your account to the amount of the retail value of the item. Accounts with $75 in fees will be locked out from borrowing additional materials. For more information, head to courierherald.com.
