Enumclaw Plateau resident and familiar figure, Martin Fernando Gonzales, Jr, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, due to complications from a stroke.
Martin grew up in Bloomfield, New Mexico, and by age 20 had established his own cabinet business. He moved to the Seattle area in 1990, where he worked at a downtown cabinet shop for several years. A skilled craftsman and entrepreneur, he once again built his own cabinet business in Washington State, never needing to advertise. One satisfied customer led to another, his specialized cabinetry and reputation for quality work made for repeat customers and countless referrals. Homes from San Juan Island to San Francisco can boast of his handiwork.
Customers and contractors became his friends; he readily offered advice and assistance to other cabinetmakers, never considering them his competition. Martin was a stalwart in his small community, the man that neighbors thought of first when needing to borrow a tool or find help with a project or simply looking for a chat. He was rarely idle, always engaged in a host of projects with ideas for so many more. He was a man of faith. He loved God and he loved people.
Martin is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sandy; their son Aaron and daughter Megan; parents Ruth and Martin Gonzales of Bloomfield, NM; brother Matt (Michell) of Bloomfield, NM; brother Steven (Sherri) of Lebanon, MO; plus an extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
