• Washington state artist Eric Wiegart, and author of “Watercolor – Free and Easy,” will offer a four-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13-16 at Green River Community College’s Enumclaw campus. Wiegart is an exhibitor at the Frye Museum, Salmagundi Club, Knickerbocker Artists, National Arts Club and Butler Institute of American Art. • The Enumclaw High art show is scheduled for 4 to 7:30 p.m. March 19 in the school’s library. An awards ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. There is a $2 suggested donation.
• The Gateway Concert Band will perform at 2 p.m. March 22 in the White River High auditorium and 7 p.m. March 23 in the Enumclaw High auditorium. The concert is free, however donations are gladly accepted.
• Arts Alive! is putting out a call for artists for the Aug. 1-2 Art in the Garden, which will take place at Cathy Matson’s Country Garden Bouquets in Enumclaw. • Photographer Jan Wieser presents “The Open Lens” beginning today, Wednesday, and running through April 1 at the city of Enumclaw’s Gallery 2009. • Evergreen Enumclaw Health and Rehabilitation will host a Relay For Life chili cookoff fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26.
• Friends of the Black Diamond Library need plant donations for their 43rd plant sale. Bring plants to the Black Diamond Library, located at 24707 Roberts Dr., by April 5. • Neighbors Health Fair is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Intent Yoga facility at J.J. Smith Elementary. • The city of Buckley will host a father-daughter Spring Fling from 5 to 7 p.m. March 21 at the Buckley Youth Activity Center, 251 River Ave. S. Tickets can be purchased at the youth center. • Boy Scout Troop 422 of Enumclaw will host its third annual troop dinner and auction at 6 p.m. March 20 at the Enumclaw Expo Center (Pete’s Pool). Cost for the evening is $5 and includes dinner, beverages and an auction card. Tickets are available through members of Troop 422 at their Monday night meetings at Enumclaw’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 44426 244th Ave. S.E. and at the door. Proceeds from the auction will support the troop’s monthly outdoor trips and activities, summer camp and a planned canoe trip in Minnesota in 2010.
• The Friends of Black Diamond Library are hosting a quilt raffle with tickets selling for $1. The star quilt, titled “The Raspberry Thief,” was handmade by Enumclaw resident Karin Renaud. The quilt is currently on display at the Black Diamond Library, 24707 Roberts Dr.

• The Wilkeson Centennial Committee announces the availability of centennial quilts and 2009 calendars showcasing Wilkeson’s history. All proceeds benefit the Wilkeson Centennial celebration and town momunent.
Library
• The Tacoma Art Museum will present a free workshop, Short Stories, Little Books, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Buckley Library, 123 S. River Ave. Each participant, age 6 and older with an adult companion, will create and produce an illustrated storybook, and learn to make folded books. The program is based on the work of David Macaulay, author of “The Way Things Work” and “The Way We Work,” which is currently featured in an exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum. Schools
• Collins High School, 2160 Collins Rd., Buckley, will host an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. This is an informal informational meeting and a chance to hear about recommendations for changes to the program. There will also be an opportunity to meet staff, get current Washington Assessment of Student Learning and math program information. A spaghetti dinner, prepared by students, will be available.
• The Homeschoolers’ Support Association presents storyteller, musician and historic re-enactor Karen Haas and her presentation Westward Ho! at 2 p.m. March 21 in the J.J. Smith Elementary auditorium. This event is designed for elementary-aged students through adult. This event is free for Homeschoolers’ Support Association members and their families. • White River School District kindergarten registration will be March 18. Children must be 5 years of age by Aug. 31 to qualify. Parents or guardians are encouraged to registration childrend at their home elementary school, even if they are planning to request an intradistrict transfer. Registration is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. at each school’s main office.

Activity Center
All activities are at the center, 1350 Cole St., unless otherwise noted. More information about any of the following programs or activities is available by phoning the center at 360-825-4741.
• Income tax appointments will be available by appointment at the center. Remember to bring in last year’s 2008 tax return and 2008 tax papers. All appointments will be at the youth center next door.
• Friendship Tea is a special event open to friends, mothers, daughters, nieces, aunts or that wonderful person in your life. Come for a delicious food and savory teas at 1:30 p.m. April 17. Bring a tea cup and saucer. Sign up in office for this event. An $8 payment must be made upon signing up.
• Make reservations for The Seattle Symphony’s 2009-10 concert series. Prices vary depending on seat selection and ticket includes transportation from the center aboard a motor coach. The Seattle Symphony has a deadline of March 27. Please see Donna in office.
Buckley Senior Center
The Buckley Senior Center is at 811 Main St. and can be reached at 360-829-0190.
• The center has new hours. It is now open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. This schedule will allow the center to continue to serve lunch daily and still comply with the city’s new work schedule.
• Free income tax assistance will be offered at the center between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. March 18 and April 8. No appointment is necessary.
Black Diamond
Community Center

• The Sons of Italy meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
• The Sons of Italy will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at 2 p.m. Sunday.
• Tuesday is the center’s St. Patrick’s dinner featuring corned beef and cabbage. The party starts at 11 a.m. The $3 tickets must be purchased in advance.
• March birthdays will be celebrated March 19. Also that day, foot care appointments will be available with Karen Poppleton, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $25.
• The Investment Club meets at 10 a.m. March 23.
• Salvation Army assistance for Puget Sound energy bills is available Families, seniors and disabled persons with an urgent or final notice in Black Diamond, Green River Gorge, Ravensdale, Selleck, Buckley, Enumclaw, Maple Valley and Covington may be eligible for energy assistance. We can pay up to the last $150 on gas or electric service. Please call 360-886-1011 to make an appointment for assistance.
Assistance is also offered as gasoline vouchers, propane vouchers, rental assistance and other essentials, to those who reside in the area.

• Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), a support group for those wanting to lose weight or keep it off, meets in Enumclaw, Buckley and Black Diamond.
