Margary (Margie) Alexander, 94, died August 4, 2023 in Enumclaw. She was born in Tacoma on August 9, 1928. The only daughter of Merle and William (Bill) Green, she was the proud sister of older brother Harry and younger brother Bob. Attending Bellevue High School, Margie was named Strawberry Festival Queen her senior year. She had a group of girlfriends with whom she remained close into her 80s, attending regular luncheons, the group referred to themselves as the Bellevue Bunch. After graduating in 1946 Margie met Dawson (Alex) Alexander Jr. of Gasden, Alabama through her brother, Harry.
When Harry brought Alex home and he saw Margie’s picture on the wall Alex said, “I’m going to marry that girl someday”. Alex and Margie were married on January 15, 1949. They had four daughters and were a wonderful team until Alex’s passing in December 1996. Margie was a devoted military wife; Alex’s 26 year naval career, during which he was a Lieutenant commander and Navy SEAL, took the family to California and Massachusetts before returning to Washington upon his retirement from the service. Margie worked various jobs in sales and at First Federal Bank of Renton. Her dedication to her family was unprecedented. Strong Christian faith is something Margie relied on in good times and bad, and she led by example. The true resolve of Margie’s character was particularly exhibited while raising her girls with Alex often away at sea, regardless of any challenge, her love and care for her family and friends never wavered. Cooking, playing the piano, sewing, and drawing were a few of Margie’s passions and talents. Quick witted, always loving a good laugh, she was simply fun to be around. Margie found companionship later in life with Don Shay, the two of them had many great adventures and memories prior to his passing in March 2015.
Margie is survived by three daughters: Cindy Westendorf (Randy), Heidi Alexander, and Tracy Alexander (Randy Morgan); nine grandchildren: Ryan Westendorf (Kim Mahaffey), Corey Westendorf (Carmen), Tracey Westendorf (Amanda), Savanah Carpenter (Keith), Jaclynn Loibl (David), Kyle Moergeli, Andria Throm (Casey), Alexandra Morgan (Josh Walker), and Dawson Morgan (Jessica Hobley); and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dawson Alexander Jr.; both brothers, Harry and Bob Green; daughter Debra Moergeli; and great granddaughter Cynthia Rose Westendorf.
Family services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please share a memory of Margie on the tribute wall at www.weeksfuneralhomes.com.
