School is starting and the weather is cooling down, heralding the end of summer. Still, there are several activities for families to get into this month, from the Enumclaw Expo Center’s new BBQ, Bews, and Brats festival to the annual Viking Feast at the Danish Hall and Black Diamond’s Labor Days celebration. SUMMER EVENTS

• Black Diamond Labor Days: Black Diamond is hosting its annual Labor Days celebration from Sept. 2 – 4 at the field behind Black Diamond Elementary. Saturday kicks off with “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” at 8:30 p.m., while Sunday sees Doggy Day, a pie, jam, and jelly competition, live music to fundraise for a new skatepark, and various yard games. On Monday is a breakfast, car show, the ever-popular parade, live music, and additional field games. For more information, go to page 2.

• Meet up on Main: From June through October, 10 a.m. to noon, the Buckley Downtown Association is hosting Meet Up on Main, which is a time for car enthusiasts who want to participate in the following week’s Cruise can get together and shoot the breeze.

• Cruise Buckley: Buckley is getting in on the cruising action by hosting their own downtown cruises every third Saturday from May through October from 6 to 9 p.m.

• Cruise Enumclaw: The first Friday of every month through September is reserved for Cruise Enumclaw, which features an informal car parade on Cole Street and through downtown. It’s a free event, but spectators are encouraged to support local businesses and restaurants while enjoying the city’s downtown atmosphere. Cars start rolling around 6 p.m.

• Enumclaw Farmer’s Market: The annual Enumclaw Farmer’s Market returns for its Fifth year on First Avenue every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. from June 1 through September. For more information, head to enumclawplateaufarmersmarket.org.

SINGLE EVENTS

Sept. 2

“Puss in Boots” movie night: Black Diamond’s Ten Trails neighborhood is hosting a free showing of “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” on Sept. 6. The event, which goes from 5 to 10:30 p.m., also features food trucks, a beer garden, and various games. The movie starts at dusk. Before the movie, there will be a 45-minute video on Black Diamond history.

Sept. 9

Beautify the Plateau: Both Enumclaw and Buckley are hosting its annual Beautify events on Sept. 9. Both events start at 8:30 — Enumclaw participants will meet at Enumclaw High School at 8:30 for a takeaway breakfast and opening ceremony, which includes a flag raising and choir performance, before getting to work around 9:15 a.m. The Buckley group is meeting at the skate park for its own flag ceremony and introductions. Volunteers will work until around noon. All ages are welcome, and there’s no need to sign up — just show up any tools you’ll need for the projects you want to tackle. Sept. 16

• Ten Trails Hometown HoeDown: Black Diamond’s Ten Trails HoeDown, featuring live music, vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, and various kids activities, games, and prizes, is being hosted at Civic Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Playing music will be Saltwater Sky from noon to 2 p.m., and Sammy Steele & The Spades from 2 to 5 p.m.

• CAR PARTS SWAP: The Thunder Dome Car Museum in Eunmclaw is hosting a Car Parts and Gear Swap Meet on Sept. 16 and 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you’d like to reserve a space for your car parts, call 253-326-3689.

Sept. 26

• Square Dancing Classes: Buckley’s square dancing club, The Spinners, is starting new classes on Sept. 26. Classes will run every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.; the cost is $6 per class, but you can pre-register at squaredance-rainier.org/classes to get your first lesson free. It’s encouraged to attend every class, because each class will build on the last.

Sept. 30

• BBQ, Brews and Brats: The Enumclaw Expo Center’s first-ever BBQ, Brews, and Brats event is being hosted on Sept. 30, from noon to 7 p.m., and Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-sale admission is $30 ($35 for onsite tickets) and comes with a commemorative tasing glass, three beer tickers, and two BBQ tasting tickets. Designated Driver tickets are $15 pre-sale ($20 at the door). There is also VIP access for $50 that comes with early access, additional beer and BBQ tickets, and more. • Viking Feast: The Enumclaw Danish Sisterhood is hosting its annual Viking Feast on Sept. 30 at the Danish Hall. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., and dinner starts at 6 p.m. Viking attire is encouraged but not mandatory. The meal includes several appetizers, a soup, alcoholic drinks, and a whole smoked pig. Tickets are $60 per person, and you must RSVP by mailing a check to Pepe Terou, P0 Box 1163, Enumclaw, WA 98022 (make checks out to the DSS Lodge #75).

RECURRING EVENTS

• Coffee with the Mayor: Coffee with the mayor of Enumclaw is held at City Hall on every first Monday of the month (Tuesday if it is on a holiday) from 9 to 10 a.m. This is a casual session for citizens to meet with Mayor Jan Molinaro to discuss issues, concerns, and projects.

• Brewskis with a Newsie: Come meet your local journalists on every first Wednesday of each month at Cole Street Brewery (1627 Cole Street, Enumclaw) from 5 to 6 p.m. This is an informal event where residents can pitch stories, fact-check articles, and talk shop. • WIBIT Night: The Enumclaw Aquatic Center hosts WIBIT Night every first Saturday of the month, and features large, inflatable pool obstacle courses. Call 360-815-1188 to reserve your spot. Tickets for reservations are $7.75 an hour; drop-ins are $9 an hour.
