Plateau Outreach Ministry’s two food banks are being moved under one roof.

The local nonprofit announced last month that both the food bank on Marshall Avenue (at the P.O.M. building) and the Enumclaw Food Bank on Cole Street will be relocating to Calvary Presbyterian Church in February.

POM merged with the Enumclaw Food Bank, a former independent non-profit, in March 2022.

“We are excited to have both food banks under one roof, after having been combined in name now for nearly two years. We plan to open in February (exact date still pending),” said P.O.M. Director if Community Engagement Angie Adam. “Our hope has always been to provide a market style food bank experience for our clients, and this will allow dedicated space to set that up in. It’s exciting to see something we have hoped for coming to life as we move into this new year.”

The food bank will be called “The P.O.M. Food Bank,” she continued.

Moving the two food banks to Calvary will enable P.O.M. to set up a permanent grocery store-like experience for clients. The Marshall Avenue food bank was offering a smaller version of this since the fall of 2022, but it had to put up/take down the set-up every week; the Cole Street food bank did not have the room for this set-up.

Adam said that P.O.M. plans to be open at least Mondays through Wednesdays, similar to when both food banks are currently open, but the exact hours aren’t nailed down yet. Because of this, and because the new food bank space is larger then the others, Adam said they will retain the same number of volunteers currently helping run these operations.

The Cole Street building will be used for overflow storage, because it has some walk0in freezers that can’t be moved; space in the P.O.M. building will be reutilized for thrift store donation sorting or other business uses.
