Marvin Grant Covey was born on August 8, 1934 in Yakima, WA, the son of Joseph and Violet Covey. In 1967, Marv’s Aunt Blanche set Marv up on a blind date with a sweet young lady she worked with named Donna Sodergren. Marv and Donna married a year later on May 11, 1968. Marv was a mechanic for Fugate Ford for many years and later opened his own repair shop that was frequented by many Enumclaw residents.
Marv was an organic gardener before there was even a term for it and loved to work in his huge garden and share the bountiful produce with his neighbors. He loved dogs, was an excellent trainer and the neighborhood “dog magnet”. If a neighbor’s dog ran off, there was a good chance it could be found with Marv who loved to give dog treats and always had a friendly rub for his canine friends.
Marv passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023 in Enumclaw, WA after an extended illness. An informal gathering and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:30 am in Garret Hall at Wabash Church 18325 SE 384TH St. in Auburn, WA. A light lunch will be served.
Marv is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Covey of Enumclaw, WA, son Grant (Theresa) Covey of Bonney Lake and daughter Dana Covey of Enumclaw, WA, brothers Roger (Karen) Covey and Robert (Diane) Covey of Ninilchik, AK and sisters Jeanette Walmsley of Renton, WA and JoAnne Covey of Graham, WA. Grandchildren: Jason (Misty) Covey, Joseph Covey and Jerromey Covey.
Great grandchildren: Alex, Maddison and Ian.
Marv is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and especially by his neighbors who loved to visit in the shade of the trees in the summer and in front of the wood stove in the winter.
