We in Cumberland have been given a proposal.
I say no to the Cumberland gravel mine proposed by Segale Properties.
My husband and I live on the main Veazie-Cumberland Road in the little unincorporated town of Cumberland. We were notified of the Segale proposal only a month ago, and expected to read and digest a 2,833 page proposal by the county by the deadline of March 12. What? This is ridiculous and unwieldy.
We are one of the very last little corners of King County where people can enjoy God’s Country. We’re sandwiched between Nolte State Park, Kanasket-Palmer State Park, Flaming Guiser State Park, and the Green River Gorge. Segale’s gravel mine would virtually ruin this pristine wilderness.
The proposal asks to run over 500 trucks per day on our two-lane road. They not only want to mine gravel, but would build a huge crusher, an asphalt plant, and a cracking tower. The environmental impact would be immense! The noise from the mine as well as the traffic congestion, dust, and smell will rob the soul of this beautiful, natural area.
We are on the corridor to Mount Rainier, and offer families hiking, climbing, bicycling, swimming, fishing, and camping in the great outdoors.
There is a Change.org petition to resist the Cumberland gravel mine (change.org/p/stop-the-proposed-900-acre-aggregate-mine-and-asphalt-plant-in-cumberland-wa). Please sign this petition for the good of all!
