The Friday night lights brought positive results for the Plateau’s soccer programs, with both White River and Enumclaw ringing up victories on the pitch.
The teams went about things differently, as White River bolted to a 3-0 lead over Fife and held on for a 3-2 decision; at the same time, Enumclaw was crushing lowly Orting 6-0.
White River’s victory tightened the South Puget Sound League 2A standings and showed why the Hornets belong in title contention. The Fife Trojans arrived at Arrow Lumber Stadium with an undefeated league record (4-0-1), sitting in second place behind Franklin Pierce. White River quickly took the steam from the Trojans’ sails, finding the back of the net in just the fifth minute of play and again in the 11th minute.
Two of the Hornets’ first-half goals were provided by Lane Beus, courtesy of assists by Max Argo and Ivan Floyd. The third goal came off the foot of Evan Weisheyer, assisted by Tannar Huhta.
White River coach TJ Suek was justifiably pleased to get the win over a tough Fife squad.
“It was another strong performance by Bryan Rodriguez and Max Argo in the midfield,” he said, “coupled with a great showing by Preston Meador at outside mid.” He also praised the work of Beus and Elijah Wagner who “created opportunities throughout the game up top.”
The victory pushed White River’s SPSL 2A record to 4-2-1 (4-2-2 overall). Fife remained a half-game ahead in the standings at 4-1-1 and Franklin Pierce maintained its place at the top with a 5-0 record. Franklin Pierce already has victories over White River and Enumclaw to its credit and had a key showdown with Fife Tuesday night.
White River went looking for league victory No. 5 on Monday of this week with a quick trip to nearby Orting. Tuesday brought a battle for Plateau pride as Enumclaw traveled to Buckley.
Enumclaw’s Friday night victory improved the team’s record to break-even status, 3-3 in SPSL 2A play.
The win was sparked by a hat trick turned in by Coltin Kanzeg Burt, with all three goals scored in a 10-minute span. Landon Breidenbach scored the Hornets’ first and last goals of the contest and Brandon Almaraz had a goal shortly before intermission.
After traveling to White River on Tuesday, EHS polishes off the week with a pair of road games. The schedule has the Hornets heading to Clover Park tonight (Wednesday) and visiting Franklin Pierce Friday.
