Marilyn Schenk

Marilyn Delores (Young) Schenk died Jan 21, 2024, at the age of 90.

Marilyn Delores (Young) Schenk, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on January 21, 2024. Marilyn was born on March 22, 1933 to Cecil and Ella Young in Akron, Colorado with her twin sister, Carolyn. She was one of nine siblings and grew up on a farm. The Young family relocated to Nebraska, which is where she met and married Lloyd Schenk in 1953. Together, the couple had three children: Sonja, Dallas and Rhonda (Dee).

In 1957, the couple moved their growing family West, and settled in Enumclaw, WA. While Lloyd completed an apprenticeship and eventually started his own business, Lloyd’s Heating & Sheetmetal, Marilyn exercised her own skillsets from home while raising the children. She was a seamstress, a talented cake decorator and an expert at all things cooking, baking, canning, and plucking a chicken. Anything she attempted, she excelled. Marilyn always had a helpful tip or trick to share in the kitchen and was often told by her family and friends that she needed to write a book to encapsulate all of her knowledge. Most of all, she was known for her creativity and abundantly kind heart.

Lloyd and Marilyn built a beautiful life together in the 69 years they were married and spent many weekends enjoying a 56-acre parcel of land that the couple purchased in 1986. Named the L&M Ranch but affectionately referred to as “The Property,” the land became a gathering place for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Frank Young, Roger Young, Roland Young, Milton Young and baby sister Cecelia Young; son-in-law Dan Crimmins; and husband Lloyd who passed in November, 2022.

She is survived by her twin sister Carolyn (Young) Austin, brother Lynn Young, and sister Lyndall (Young) Bentz; their daughter Sonja (Schenk) Crimmins, son Dallas, and daughter Dee (Schenk) Kyllonen and her husband Don; grandchildren Trevor Crimmins and wife Cara, Heidi (Kyllonen) Aiza and husband Aaron, Becky (Crimmins) Kling and husband Kyler, Drew Kyllonen and wife Jenney; great-grandchildren Emily and Andy Crimmins, Alex, Nina and Grace Aiza, Brady and Olive Kling, and Ruby and Bear Kyllonen.

Marilyn’s family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Mt. Rainier Christian Center, 1878 Osceola St. N. in Enumclaw, WA 98022. Please share a memory of Marilyn on the tribute wall at www.weeksfuneralhomes.com
