The Washington Thoroughbred Foundation, in conjunction with the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association and Emerald Downs, is pleased to present Equine Art 2014. The show occurs on track level at Emerald Downs July 11-13.
The show’s purpose is to encourage equine artists and to support the arts, in general, as an integral part of all horse-related sports. The annual art show has garnered recognition since its inception in 1980 at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion at Longacres. In 2014, we celebrate our 15th year of continued growth and success at Emerald Downs.
The show, judged by a respected panel of Northwest artists and/or art aficionados, is open to all ages, including children, pre-teen, intermediate and adult divisions. Cash prizes are offered in all media and age categories, including the Stanley A. Gillman Best in Show Award, Angie Crockett Memorial People’s Choice Award and Morrie & Joan Alhadeff Purchase Award.
This year artist Joe MacKechnie’s “Running on Air,” which appeared on the cover of the Fall 2013 issue of Washington Thoroughbred magazine, was awarded first place in the open Illustration category at the 2014 American Horse Publications Annual Awards contest (for material published in 2013) held in Charleston, South Carolina. MacKechnie’s stunning artwork appeared on the cover by virtue of having won the Washington Thoroughbred Publication Award at Equine Art 2013. This is the fourth time since 2006 that Washington Thoroughbred has won first place at the national competition with the previous year’s equine art show publication award winner.
