Buckley City Council members accepted a bid May 24 for realignment for the notorious “dysfunction junction,” a jumbled point on the city map where four roads converge.

The intersection is home to state Route 410, SR 165, Ryan Road and 112th Street East.

The bid was awarded to Buckley-based Johansen Excavating, which offered the lowest responsible bid of almost $2.24 million. The bid includes a related project, the installation of a stormwater pipe from the west terminus of the project to the Wickersham Basin on the western edge of the city.

The bulk of the cost will be covered by grant money from the Washington State Department of Transportation, the state’s Transportation Improvement Board and the Federal Highway Administration. Still, the city will still have to come up with $373,233 to complete the project.
