Rooster the goat and her owner Ariann Blakely were granted the honor Thursday of being named “King Critter,” crowned by King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn alongside Enumclaw Mayor Jan Molinaro. The first runner-up was Thistle Down the duck owned by Pera Cullens, and 3rd place was awarded to Jill the rabbit owned by Kira Tucker (photos attached with caption info at the bottom of this release).
“It is always wonderful to celebrate the Fair in King County,” Dunn said. “It is a special and time-honored tradition. I am proud to congratulate this year’s winning critter, Rooster, and her owner Ariann Blakely!”
The Critter Crowning marks opening day of the King County Fair, which runs from July 11-14this year. The Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 to Saturday, July 13, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Now in its 161st year, it’s the oldest fair west of the Mississippi.
“The King County Fair for 2024 will be providing fun for family and friends. As always, we have kid friendly activities and rides as well as youth organizations, such as the 4-H Club and their animals that fair goers can come out to enjoy,” Molinaro said. “I would like to thank King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn for his continued support of the Enumclaw Expo Center over the many years. Make plans to visit the Fair through Sunday, July 14!”
The King County Fair is a long-standing event held at the Enumclaw Expo Center, featuring numerous attractions including 4-H & FFA exhibits, carnival rides, pig races, kid tractor pulls, chainsaw carving, free musical entertainment, shopping vendors, and a variety of food vendors. The fair is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and a wide range of activities that appeal to all ages.
If you’re planning to visit, it’s recommended to check the fair’s schedule for specific event times and ticket information, which can be purchased in advance online or at the gate. Admission includes all shows and concerts. Military and senior discounts are offered.
Admission for adults ages 13 and up is $10, $5 for kids ages 5-12, and free for kids ages five and under.
