The Enumclaw High girls ran to a 13th-place finish during Saturday’s state Class 3A cross country championships.
Competing at a chilly Sun Willows Golf Course in the Tri-Cities, the team was paced by sophomore Aleea Gwerder. She toured the course in 19 minutes, 22 seconds, the 24th finisher across the line.
Running No. 2 for EHS was sophomore Samantha Engebretsen, 43rd overall with a time of 19:47. Also factoring in the team scoring for the Hornets were senior Abby Callison, 81st, 20:34; senior Danielle Flintoff, 108th, 21:31; and junior Amanda Stenslie, 114th, 21:47. Rounding out the EHS team were senior Riley Desmul, 120th, 22:16, and sophomore Kristen Pedersen, 125th, 22:52.
Enumclaw boys
Three members of the EHS boys team cracked the state Class 3A field, running Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course.
Sophomore Eric Hamel was the first Hornet across the finish line, placing 81st in the field with a time of 17:02. Senior Hayden Schmitt came in 105th at 17:38 and junior Josh Sanders was 115th with a time of 17:46.
The two had earned a state trip during the previous week’s district meet.
White River girls
A pair of White River High cross country runners competed Saturday against the best the Class 2A ranks had to offer.
Sophomore Madison Moser placed 51st in the field, touring the Sun Willows course in 20:25, and junior Brenna Liebel was 87th, finishing in 21:02.
They had qualified for the state championships during the previous week’s district meet.
