The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction recently announced that 10 teachers in the Enumclaw School District earned National Board Certification.

Enumclaw High School teachers Tyler Crane, Adam Ihde, Jennifer Planellas and Tandy Schafer, Thunder Mountain Middle School teacher Shirley Rhodes, Enumclaw Middle School teachers Andy Means, Della Demerjian and Will Stuenkel, Black Diamond Elementary School teacher Kristi Carlson and Sunrise Elementary School teacher Nikki O’Brien were those who were honored.

The Enumclaw School Board recognized the recipients at its regular meeting Dec. 22.

National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to identify, recognize and reward teachers who meet rigorous standards based on what teachers should know and be able to do. Each recipient receives a $5,000 bonus each year.

Those 10 recently honored join 11 Enumclaw staff members who have already earned National Board Certification. According to Superintendent Mike Nelson, this represents 8 percent of the certificated staff in the Enumclaw School District. State Superintendent Terry Bergeson announced the state average would be just less than 5 percent.
