February 15, 1953 – February 25, 2025
On February 25, 2025, the world lost a kind and loving soul, Richard Lacy Smith.
Born in Tacoma, WA, on February 15, 1953, Richard, or Rick as he was fondly known by those closest to him, was a spirited individual with a unique zest for life. He was a man of remarkable generosity, ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Richard’s thoughtful nature was a beacon of light and comfort to his family and friends, making him the heart of every gathering. Richard dedicated his life to the service of his family, particularly his children whom he cherished more than anything in the world. He was a homemaker extraordinaire, creating a warm and loving nest for his daughters, Elisha and Ashley, and for their friends and children, to grow up in.
His heart was big enough to encompass not just his immediate family, but his large extended family. He loved spending time with his sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews.
Richard’s hobbies reflected his vibrant personality. He had a love for collecting antique brass and copper items, a testament to his appreciation for things that stood the test of time, much like his enduring love for his family.
Richard was also a man of faith, growing up Catholic and later joining the Lutheran Church and attended Trinity Lutheran Church and Hope Lutheran Church in Enumclaw, Washington.
Our beloved Richard was a man of many talents. Whether it was fixing cars, working on home projects, working in the yard, or hitting the jackpot at the slot machines, Richard did it all with a charming smile, twinkle in his eyes, and an infectious enthusiasm.
Richard was a man who found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. He loved to sing, his voice echoing with warmth and passion. He was also a lover of eagles, symbolizing his free spirit and his soaring personality.
In death, he is reunited with his mother and father, Shirley and Frank Dotson, along with his siblings Christine, Stephen, and Robert, and his beloved dog, Cindi.
He is survived by his son, Richard Smith (Tara); his daughters, Marisa Jacobs (Tom), Elisha Smith-Marshall (Keith), and AshleyMiller (Jeremy); his five grandchildren (Amber, Jeremiah, Ava, Zachariah, and Logan); and one great-grandchild (Audrey).
As we remember Richard, let us recall the verse from Psalms 23:6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” This verse encapsulates Richard’s life, a testament to his loving spirit, his generous heart, and his unwavering faith.
The Family invites you to celebrate Richard’s life at Hope Lutheran Church in Enumclaw, Washington on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11am. A luncheon will follow.
