Enumclaw is on the way to a record-breaking 2010 American Cancer Society Relay For Life, and there’s still time to sign up.
Last year, Relay For Life of Enumclaw raised a record $112,000 and was one of the few in the state to reach the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) pacesetter status. Committee member Marilyn Hash also received a top honor, being named a Hero of Hope by the ACS for being an outstanding Relay For Life volunteer and cancer survivor.
This year, the event is already setting records with more than 100 participants and has already exceeded last year’s fund raising by more than $10,000.
“We are so grateful of our outstanding support from the community,” said chair Gretchen Waller. “Cancer affects so many of us and this event allows our community to celebrate survivors, remembers loved ones and fights back against the disease.”
The 2010 Relay For Life of Enumclaw will take place June 19 and 20 at J.J. Smith Elementary. Teams may sign up at www.enumclawrelay.com. The deadline to register is May 11.
With the theme “Rockin’ Through the Decades,” this year’s relay will have live bands, barbecues, a Mr. Madonna contest and more. Relay For Life is encouraging everyone, whether they are registered for a team or not, to come enjoy the fun-filled overnight event and celebrate cancer survivors, loved ones and to raise money for cancer research.
