ENUMCLAW SOCCER: EHS soccer bows out of play

Enumclaw High couldn’t translate regular-season soccer success into a postseason victory, suffering a pair of shutout losses and seeing their 2010 campaign come to a quick close.

The regular season had provided reason for optimism, as the Hornets placed fourth in the competitive South Puget Sound League 3A with a 4-2-2 record.

That finish placed the Hornets into a subdistrict contest Aug. 12 against Foster High, the No. 4 squad from the Seamount League. Playing an afternoon game at Sumner’s Sunset Chev Stadium, the Hornets fell 1-0.

That game was for seeding purposes only and the Hornets took the No. 8 berth into the West Central District tournament. WCD action kicked off Saturday, traveling to Olympia’s Ingersoll Stadium and a contest against Capital High. The afternoon proved disastrous for EHS, which left town on the short end of a 5-0 score in the winner-to-state, loser-out contest.
