Gina Sanders and Bedda Johnson won No. 1 doubles at Saturday’s eight-school invitational girls tennis match at South Kitsap.
“That was huge,” Enumclaw High coach Rick Carel said. “They’d played some great people.”
As a team, EHS finished second, three points behind Gig Harbor – another big accomplishment, Carel said, since Gig Harbor’s team is made up of year-round tennis players, while most of the Hornets are three-sport athletes.
EHS’s No. 4 team of Jennifer Hogan and Camille Claire also won. Alex Putman was third.
The Hornets beat Peninsula 4-1 April 11, with Rachel Holly’s come-from-behind win a highlight.
EHS lost a tough 3-2 match against defending state champion Decatur April 12. The Hornets’ Holly and Putman, won. Carel said the Hornets’ No. 2 doubles team played its heart out and should have won. The pair won the first set 6-4 and was leading 5-4, 30 love, when things soured.
