Before an astonished group of Hornet faithful at The Hive Friday evening, the White River cagers played CPHS to a 43-43 tie at intermission, then held on to clinch the exciting 80-77 upset victory.
The stunning setback suffered by Clover Park, its initial league loss of the campaign, tightened up the SPSL 2A standings considerably as the Warriors will now share the league leading limelight with 7-1 Sumner, which beat the jinx on the road traveling to Eatonville Friday night and beating a tough Cruiser crew 70-64 behind a 20 point performance from solid senior Spartan post Zeb Glissmeyer.
Meanwhile, White River sits at a 6-2 second place after dropping a game to Clover Park earlier in the season and then being beaten by Sumner in overtime 60-49, also in The Hive just three days ago.
“We were ten guys playing as one tonight,” exclaimed WRHS mentor Rick Tripp with a smile, after watching his team go to 11-4 on the campaign overall following the upset over the ripe for the picking visitors.
