With three straight pins each, Enumclaw High’s Chantelle Bailey and Jenny Paterson ran off with the 171- and 160-pound titles at the Emerald Ridge girls wrestling tournament Saturday in Puyallup.
The Enumclaw High Hornets head into the subdistrict swim tournament Friday and Saturday. This is the last opportunity for individuals and relays to qualify for the district meet set for Feb. 13 and 14.
The last tournament of the regular season for the Enumclaw High wrestling team went well. The Hornets topped host East Valley, 43-27, North Central, 49-24, and Hanford, 72-6, Friday and Saturday at the East Valley High School Dream Duals competition in Spokane.

The Enumclaw High boys swim team didn’t win an event against Peninsula in South Puget Sound League 3A competition Jan. 13, losing 126-69. It was only the second loss of the season for the Hornets.
For the second straight year, Enumclaw High’s Alicia McDougall went undefeated at the Yelm girls wrestling tournament. McDougall won all three of her matches by fall at the Saturday tourney.
When all was said and done, a miniscule 3.5 points separated the Enumclaw High wrestling team from Class 4A Graham-Kapowsin Saturday as the Hornets finished second behind the Eagles at the Central Kitsap MatMan tournament.
In 1986, Dale Blad became Enumclaw High School’s third state wrestling champion.
In the spring of 1985, the Enumclaw High slowpitch team was playing a game they loved with a close-knit group of friends. At the time, and even today, it’s hard to comprehend they were making history.
Dave Van Hoof said a Hall of Fame nomination from Enumclaw High School was something he never thought about or considered, but he’s honored to be among the 2008-09 athletes who will be inducted Friday night during halftime of the Enumclaw and Sumner boys basketball game.
