Today I want to talk about the massively huge drug problem we have on the Plateau.
A couple weeks ago, while sitting in church listening to an incredible sermon, I took a moment to sit back and close my eyes. The guest speaker was Pastor Brian Houston from Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia, and his message was alive! I was definitely not falling asleep. He was speaking to pastors and leaders that morning and he invited us to close our eyes and visualize the “church we saw with our eyes closed.”
“What is your relationship like with your father?” Or… “Tell me about your father.” This is a common opening line of question for many psychologists and counselors when meeting with a patient for the first time. Of all the places they could’ve started, why do they start here?
“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender” (Prov. 22:7). It is no secret; our country has a debt problem.
We live in the greatest country on earth and I feel so blessed to be a citizen of the United States of America. But more and more I’ve found myself wondering what is happening to our country? Has everyone gone mad?
Many years ago, a wise person said to me, “Man’s total responsibility to God is simply to respond to his love!” It would take years for me to really understand the magnitude of this profound truth.
I hate the devil! I hate his lies. I hate sin. I hate guilt. I hate death. I hate fear. I hate shame. I even hate…hate.
I was born in 1971. Dr. King’s dream was dawning and the hope of racial equality had finally become a rational discussion. I was born nearly 110 years after the abolition of slavery, but it was a year still in the adolescence of true freedom for black Americans. Once freedom has been gained it becomes the responsibility of the freed people to exonerate themselves from a slave mentality and begin to explore the infinite advantages of freedom.
With the exception of an ill-advised decision to drive around the high school track when I was 16 and a few random speeding tickets, I’m fortunate to have had very few scrapes with the law. Yes, the track thing was here in Enumclaw and led to a scrape with the law and with my father. There is probably an archived police blotter somewhere with my name on it.
Dear Jesus,
I pray that your kingdom comes. Let your will be done in this world, in me and in my life the same as it is done in your kingdom in heaven.
