Hi. My name is Laurie and I listen to Macklemore. Yes, he is a little raw, but the message is good, like Thrift Shop. But the lyrics above remind me of the headline in the newspaper in October 2012 “Eighteen teens arrested from MIP at Bonney Lake party.”
Okay, Laurie. You told us to go to council workshops, council and committee meetings. How can we if they have been cancelled? And where is everyone?
School is out, but thus far, due to the lack of sufficient resources, the Bonney Lake Summer Meals program will not be available this summer to serve meals on the Plateau to youth. I verified this with Bonney Lake Community Resources Director Stew Bowen Thursday after noting it on their website.
Summer is coming. You may hear such things as there’s nothing to do. I am bored. I am hungry. I don’t have gas to get me to work and I don’t get paid until next week. I can’t pay my utilities. I am a senior citizen who needs assistance. My husband drinks too much. It is time to go back to school and my kids have no clothes or school supplies. Can you help me?
What is the Community Development Committee (CDC)? It is a City Council subcommittee chaired by Councilman Randy McKibbin, and also comprised of Council members Jim Rackley and Katrina Minton-Davis. The committee has recently split in two. One meeting a month it talks about matters relating to building, zoning, signs, utilities and annexations. The other is the newly formed economic development part of the committee.
Mayor Neil Johnson said Friday he was not sure when the issue would be brought back before the Community Development Committee (CDC), but added that it could be a long process before the proposal returned to council.
We just endured months of obnoxious blogs, letters, signs, and grandstanding with the Metropolitan Park District. Get ready for months of more of the same.
Did you get your plastic bag in the mail for the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive? Did you remember to gather a bag or two of non-perishable food items? Were your donations by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11?
The doors multiplied and appeared in all the parks and a few other public areas. They are now in residential areas. The phenomenon has been tracked on the Bonney Lake Gnomes Facebook page, created by Scott Anderson on April 6 and managed by myself, Scott and Tom.
Did you ever use the boat launch at Allan Yorke Park and wonder why there is a palm tree and plaque there? The plaque says, “Your memory will never die. With love from survivors and friends.”
June 21, 2012 16-year-old Quentin Boggan of Bonney Lake drowned at Allan Yorke Park.
July 21, 20-year-old Marcus Henderson of Minnesota drowned at Lake Tapps North County Park.
Marques Weekly, a 19-year-old Kentridge High graduate, drowned Aug. 5. Three people also drowned during the 2010 season.
Last column I shared about my visit to the Museum of History and Industry, MOHAI, specifically the display that dealt with the Great Depression and Franklin D. Roosevelt and creation of the Olmsted park system in Seattle.
My husband and I recently braved the Mercer Mess (larger version of Main Street Mess) and went to the new Museum of History and Industry in Seattle (MOHAI). We started in one corner of the second floor with an exhibit about early tribal life to the settlement of Seattle area to the present day. I had visions of how Kelley Farm and the Fennel Creek basin were gathering places for northwest tribes to hunt, fish, harvest berries and socialize in autumn. The tribes from east of the mountains would come over Naches Pass to meet with coastal tribes.
