National Signing Day typically falls on the first Wednesday of February where student athletes across the nation commit to play their sport of choice at the collegiate level.
Both Bonney Lake and Sumner saw a number of student athletes commit to the school of their choice.
Two Buckley men were charged Feb. 3 with five counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. Augustin Gutierrez-Valencia, 24, is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail and Gerardo Danesta Dias, 25, is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. Both have entered a “not guilty” plea. Gutierrez-Valencia was charged with three of the five counts. He is charged with unlawful possession and intent to sell methamphetamine, Oxycodone and heroin. Danesta Dias is charged with the unlawful possession and intent to sell methamphetamine and heroin.
A facility scheduled to open in late 2015 in Sumner will house the final assembly of winglets for Boeing’s new 737 MAX. Boeing awarded this contract to the global aviation company, GKN Aerospace. According to a press release from Boeing, this contract is added to an existing package Boeing and GKN already have in place.
Darren James Pendergast was charged Jan. 29 with assault of a child in the second degree for an incident that occurred on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Carbonado.
The Bonney Lake Panthers hosted the Auburn Mountainview Lions in a South Puget Sound League 3A matchup Friday. Bonney Lake won its seventh game of the season beating the Lions 44-39. The game started out slow for both teams with the first quarter coming to an end and the scored tied at seven.
Sumner senior Jamie Lange was named one of Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s athletes of the week. Lange was chosen along with 10 other athletes from across the state. The WIAA’s website said, Lange had a double-double in two straight games, helping the Spartans go 2-0.
For Bonney Lake resident Corey Wilkins and his wife Gina, it was any other evening out to dinner while their kids were at the high school basketball game.
The Bonney Lake Panthers boys swim team won its first meet of the season Thursday beating Auburn 104-72. Top finishers for Bonney Lake during the Thursday meet were the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay both finished in first place.
