Bonney Lake Police Officer Nathan Alvord has been with the department since November 2011. At the Dec. 9 Bonney Lake City Council meeting, Alvord was sworn in as the department’s Community Service Officer. Alvord got his start in the Reserve Academy and graduated in April 2012.
A week into the new year and I still can’t get over how fast 2014 seemed to fly by. So many exciting things happened last year, making me excited for the year ahead. To top it off, some highlights from 2014 were the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl (duh!), I got engaged in June, my fiancee and I bought our first house and October marked my first year here at the Courier-Herald.
The American Choral Directors Association was founded in 1959 and holds a annual national conference. This year 308 girls were selected to the national honor choir and will travel to Salt Lake City in late February. Selected to participate in the four-day conference are a pair of eighth graders from Mountain View Middle School and a ninth grade student from Bonney Lake High School.
The Sumner boys and girls basketball teams traveled to San Diego to play in the Surf N’ Slam tournament over winter break. Both Spartan teams won its way to the championship game.And both finished in second place overall.

Since losing its first game of the season, the Spartan girls basketball team is on a five game winning streak. Sumner beat Auburn Mountainview 53-35 at home Thursday.
Bonney Lake sits in fourth place in the South Puget Sound League 3A with a 1-1 conference record and 2-3 overall.
The Panthers are in seventh place in the South Puget Sound League 3A after two meets.

The Spartan boys basketball team were South Puget Sound League 2A champions and ended its season in the state semifinals last year losing 56-35 to the Lynden Lions.
The Bonney Lake boys basketball team started the 2014-2015 season Tuesday with a non-league game against Rogers of Puyallup.
