East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters responded to a report that an adult male was pinned between two vehicles along the side of the road at the 20020 block of 12th Street East, near North Tapps Middle School.
I started writing for the Courier-Herald in March and didn’t spend much time on the Plateau before that. The opportunity to participate in this year’s ‘Best Of’ edition was an excellent way to acquaint myself with the area on an intimate level. UPDATE: Sumner School District announced no threat was found after a thorough search by the Pierce County Sheriff Department. Students and staff have returned to the building and after-school schedules will resume as planned.
There are currently no laws requiring the identification of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Washington state. Initiative 522 aims to change that by requiring those products to be labeled as such.
Senator Pam Roach invites community residents to a discussion about recreational fishing on Lake Tapps. The townhall-style meeting will answer many questions about fishing on the lake. Topics will include what type of fish can be caught at different times and ways to present economic opportunities related to fishing.

Dana Powers is entering her fifth year as Spartan swim head coach. The team lost many strong swimmers last year but Powers said with a lot of hard work, she expects to see the girls return to top 10 in state.

Tunes @ Tapps, the free summer concert series held at Allan Yorke Park every year, has ended and the quest for next year’s line up has already begun. Concert-goers are invited to participate in a contest to determine two of the bands that will be invited back for summer 2014.
The city of Sumner 2013 to 2014 budget is currently available for online viewing. Many questions about the prioritization of projects can be answered by reading the two year budget. The purpose of the budget is to ensure city money is allocated properly to meet program goals and objectives.
