Businesses can get expert advice at Export Forum

Business owners and managers who want to export their goods and services or learn about new tools available to help expand export operations are invited to attend a free Export Forum.

The forum, co-hosted by the Pierce County Economic Development Division and the World Trade Center Tacoma, is Feb. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Environmental Services Building, 9850 64th St. W. in University Place.

Speakers include representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Washington State Department of Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Export Finance Assistance Center of Washington, and private companies that will share their export experiences. Other guest speakers include U.S. Rep. Adam Smith and Pierce County Deputy Executive Kevin Phelps.

Topics include researching and identifying the right markets for products and services, financing and insuring export sales, and accessing the public and private resources that are available to assist in the planning process.

Several local banks will have representatives available to discuss export financing.

“This is a great opportunity for businesses to share experiences and learn from experts about tools available to help them expand their reach,” Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy said. “Creating jobs is our top priority, and this Export Forum can help local businesses identify opportunities in international markets.”

There is no charge to attend, but registration is requested to assist organizers. Register online at www.piercecountywa.org/edd or call Hans Kueck at 253-798-2335.
