Rainier Hematology-Oncology, a clinic specializing in blood and cancer care, has established an interim office in Bonney Lake.
The clinic is the sister branch of an established Puyallup location and both are subsidiaries of Northwest Medical Specialties in Puyallup. It does not have a permanent office on the Plateau yet; for now the office is using space in the Bonney Lake Medical Clinic.
It is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays and operates at a limited capacity.
“Right now we do not take care of treatment, such as chemotherapy, out of our office,” Dr. Sibel Blau said. “The future, the hope is that we’ll offer that when we have a permanent office. Right now, if I had a patient going in for chemotherapy, they would come to me two days before the therapy to have their blood drawn so I could clear them for treatment.”
The office is equipped to handle new patient visits, pre-chemotherapy clinical care and therapy follow-up for patients in remission. It can also offer flu shots, other simple shots and blood draws.
The Bonney Lake interim office currently houses two doctors, Blau and Andrea Rose. Both are hematologist-oncologists with different areas of focus. Blau’s interest area is breast cancer. Rose’s interest area is cancers of the head and neck, including lymphoma.
Northwest Medical Specialties’ executives decided to expand the Rainier Hematology-Oncology brand into Bonney Lake when they realized that approximately 30 percent of the Puyallup location’s patients came from the Plateau area. The result has been a high level of interest in the new office.
“You don’t open an office and have a full schedule on the first day,” Blau said. “But I had a full schedule right as we opened.”
An Enumclaw office will open soon as well. It is scheduled for later this year.
The interim Bonney Lake office for Rainier Hematology-Oncology is 21509 state Route 410 E. Suite 1.
