Walt & Vern’s Truck and Auto Parts store is in the middle of a complete overhaul as contractors tear down every building on the property other than the store front visible from state Route 410.
Walt & Vern’s, founded in Buckley in 1958, was bought by LKQ Corporation June 1. LKQ Plant Manager Cory Anderson spoke with the Courier-Herald about the purchase in August, when he briefly spoke about plans to renovate the property.
Those ideas are coming to pass after the city of Buckley signed off on the plans LKQ submitted for the Walt and Vern’s property. A State Environmental Policy Act notice released by the city issued a “determination of non-significance” in terms of environmental impact, as long as LKQ followed through on its proposed mitigations.
The Walt and Vern’s project includes tearing down the four storage buildings east of the storefront building, and replacing them with a single 9,000-square-foot building. The land will be leveled for adequate drainage. Stormwater utilities will be installed and the plot will be landscaped.
Walt and Vern’s is at 28520 SR 410.
