Kyle Grote has already had his baptism by fire in the pizza business and now it is his turn to run his own pizza joint under a franchise umbrella that only a few in the area might recognize.

Grote, 23, is out to change that by making Westside Pizza a household name. He hopes to place a magnetic pizza delivery tag on every refrigerator on the Plateau.

Westside Pizza is found in Buckley’s Jefferson Business Park along state Route 410, where Pizza Time had been for more than a decade.

“This biz is truly about the customer always being right,” Grote said. “If the pizza delivered isn’t what they ordered it is free, and customers also get a gift certificate for their next pizza. We want folks to be happy and associate Westside Pizza with satisfaction.

Additionally, if Grote and his crew take an inordinate amount of time to deliver the pizza, it is free. Customer demand and the distance traveled play a role, but Grote is willing to admit when things haven’t gone as well as expected.

“I’d rather give away a pizza than lose a customer or make them unhappy,” he said. “I grew up here and I know that people are basically honest and hard working folks in these parts.

“Since starting as manager here I have been putting in 80 hour weeks on my quest to familiarize people with the Westside Pizza name,” he added.

There is a flat rate $2 charge to have the pizzas delivered, but Westside’s delivery area is quite expansive, stretching from Enumclaw to the north, Bonney Lake to the west and Carbonado to the south.
