While Congressmen desiring to continue crazed federal spending frighten us with stories of shutting down the government if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, calmer voices point to the real solution: stop the unconstitutional spending and end federal borrowing.

With an admitted national debt of over $14 trillion, Congress needs to both stop borrowing and dramatically cut federal spending now. But how?

Congress could start with cutting out unconstitutional spending such as foreign aid. Since the U.S. is so deeply in debt it should hardly be giving money away to foreign governments, should it? If your family was almost bankrupt with debt would you charge up your credit cards to give the money to the neighboring city government or would you cut spending and apply your income to payment of  your debts? Tens of billions are spent in these foreign aid giveaway programs each year without constitutional authority to do so. Congress should abolish agencies and departments that are not authorized by our Constitution. For example, end the counterproductive Department of Energy that has harmed domestic energy production in the states. Cut federal spending and end federal borrowing now.
