In your June 16 paper a letter was printed with the headline, “Deregulation is the problem, not the answer.” The writer blames every social ill his imagination could conjure on the party which hasn’t held a majority in Congress since 2006. Since Congress passes the laws we must adhere to, why did the Democrats fail to regulate the offshore drilling to prevent the BP disaster?
Somehow President Obama is impotent in correcting all of the “problems he inherited” even though he has had almost a year and a half in office with a House and Senate loaded with fellow Democrats to do his bidding.
The question remains, with 17 months of completely controlling our nation’s capital, how can anyone seriously blame Republicans for the Democrats’ inability to keep their campaign promises? And if the Democrats are so good at regulating things, how about some regulations to keep 13-year-old girls from getting abortions without their parents knowledge, let alone consent?
Or maybe the majority party might consider regulating the flow of illegal immigrants into our nation. The president is ultimately responsible for law enforcement.
If Democrats are so big on regulation, what’s been stopping them?
