The city of Enumclaw is currently holding budget workshops for the upcoming year. In terms of human services, the city is considering whether to fund Plateau Outreach Ministries, Enumclaw Youth Center, King County Sexual Assault Resource Center and the YWCA. All of these agencies provide very important services to the citizens of Enumclaw.
Right now many families in Enumclaw are struggling to cover the costs of basic needs such as food, housing, clothing and utilities. Domestic violence and sexual assault are issues facing all communities – including Enumclaw.
Recently the city conducted an online survey of residents. Only 119 of Enumclaw’s 10,000-plus residents responded. Eighty-seven percent of those that responded to the survey said they would be willing to reduce or eliminate support for these types of agencies.
I do not believe that is indicative of how the majority of citizens feel about the services these groups provide to our Enumclaw neighbors in need of help. Please help by contacting the City Council, council@ci.enumclaw.wa.us, to voice your support in funding these agencies. Let’s keep Enumclaw a kind and caring community that looks out for one another.
