If you’re pro-police, you should be against the Jan. 6 riot

The riot laid bare some of the hypocrisy of the right.

I was appalled by David Cannon’s recent letter to the editor (“The Jan. 6 protest, BLM riots, and the Reichstag,” published April 21). The man who thinks antifa is an organization and in league with Black Lives Matter seems to have limitless sympathy for the people who stormed the Capitol Building in an attempt to overturn an election.

I find it very hypocritical how a member of the “back the blue” club would dismiss the violence inflicted upon the Capitol and D.C. police. Cops were sprayed with bear mace, bashed in the face with metal poles, punched and called racial slurs.

The idea that insurrection didn’t happen or that it was perpetrated by left-wing extremists, this is a lie. It happened and it was carried out by people who share Mr. Cannon’s views; that’s why he’s spouting defensive nonsense. I find it extremely cynical of Mr. Cannon to invoke Nazi persecution while attempting to provide cover for anti-democratic rioters.
