As we approach April 22, I would like to highlight the significance of the Enumclaw School District Capital Levy measure. The regular Educational Programs and Operations (EPO) Levy, which was passed in 2022, contributes approximately 13% of the district’s operating budget and supports counselors, nurses, custodians, and other essential personnel and programs not covered by state funding.
The upcoming Enumclaw School District Capital Levy is different, and focuses on improving the infrastructure that supports education, including school buildings and safety systems. Many of our schools require repairs, such as replacing old kitchen equipment, installing new roofs, and upgrading heating systems. Additionally, this levy aims to enhance security measures, including the installation of cameras at front entrances to ensure doors remain locked during school hours. Furthermore, school buses will be equipped with GPS systems, allowing families to track their location through an app. These security upgrades are already in place in several neighboring districts.
The current funding structure for schools in our state necessitates community support. This levy is projected to generate an estimated $3 million annually for four years, which will address the most pressing repair needs.
I encourage community members to participate in this process and submit their ballots by April 22. Every voter’s voice is important. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
